If not Jarvis, then who?

The news that Jarvis Cocker was forced to release an official statement denying that he is a Conservative is mostly interesting because it shows that there was a momentary possibility that people might have thought that he is in fact a Tory.

Whether this says more about him (ageing and still rich enough to relax) or more about the Tories (the new rock n roll, obviously) is not yet clear, although describing Gordon Brown as "a bit lame" suggests that the Pulp singer's powers of political insight have diminished since the high point of his career, singing about Common People.

The whole confusion raises a question, though – which celebs can we expect to come out for Cameron either immediately before or shortly after the next election? The days of Tory faces like Jim Davidson are probably over. But who will replace them? And who might be on Dave Cameron's wishlist?
