If it aint broke? Pick your Sunderland Wembley XI as Black Cats face Tranmere in EFL Trophy final

Sunderland are just 90 minutes away from landing their first piece of silverware since 1973.

The Black Cats take on Tranmere in Sunday's Papa John's Trophy Final at Wembley looking to banish the memories of double defeat under the famous arch in 2019.

Head coach Lee Johnson knows his side are in excellent form in League One - which remains their main priority this season - but will have to balance his Wembley selection with the pressures of their promotion push.

Sunderland face Accrington Stanley away on Wednesday and, while they are firmly focused on a place in the top two, he will not want Sunday's final to derail their season aims.

That said, if it aint broke, then don't fix it.

The Black Cats have Conor McLaughlin available to them again, while Dion Sanderson, Jake Vokins and Carl Winchester are cup-tied. Bailey Wright, Jordan Willis and Denver Hume are all ruled out, while Aiden O'Brien and Jordan Jones will have late fitness tests.

It means some decisions for Johnson to make, with Lynden Gooch pushing for a place in the starting XI, while McLaughlin's return could allow Max Power to compete for a central midfield spot alongside Carl Winchester and Josh Scowen.

But what team would you send out at Wembley?

Use our interactive team selector above to pick your Sunderland XI from the available players, and the formation they should use.

We'll then compile a most popular XI from all the selections.
