'If he was your friend, he was a true friend': Devastated family pays tribute to dad killed in Stretford pub attack

The family of a man who died after being attacked in a Stretford pub has paid tribute to him.

Gavin Brown, 29, died in hospital yesterday, eight days after he was critically injured in an assault at the Melville Hotel.

Police were called to a 'disturbance' at the Melville Road pub at 8.30pm on Friday, April 12.

Emergency services attended and Gavin was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Following his death police launched a murder investigation.

And in a statement today his family said they were struggling to come to terms with Gavin’s death and asked for privacy.

They added: "Gavin was a son, brother, dad, uncle, nephew and cousin.

"He had a really wide range of friends and was loved by everybody. If he was your friend; he was a true friend to you.

"He had a big heart and will be missed by everybody who knew him."

Three men – aged 52, 39 and 30 – were arrested on suspicion of a section 18 assault, but have since been released under investigation.

The incident prompted a large response from emergency services at the time, with around eight police vehicles, a fire engine and three North West Ambulance Service vehicles - including an NWAS incident response unit - arriving at the scene.

At that point police described it as a 'violent incident' which left Gavin fighting for his life.
