'If he can keep...': Jay Shah's condition for 'asset' Rishabh Pant's inclusion in T20 World Cup squad

NEW DELHI: Out of action for more than 15 months, swashbuckling Rishabh Pant is all set for a return to professional cricket in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.

With the T20 World Cup following soon after the completion of the IPL, eyes will be on Rishabh and his performances in the league as it will give a clearer picture over his participation in the ICC's cricketing extravaganza.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Monday said that Rishabh is being monitored ahead of his return and labelled him an asset. Jay Shah also revealed that a fully fit Rishabh will be considered for the T20 World Cup.

"He is batting well, he is keeping well. We will declare him fit very soon. If he can play the T20 World Cup for us, that will be a big thing for us. He is a big asset for us," Shah told PTI.

"If he can keep, he can play the World Cup. Let's see how he does in the IPL," said Shah.

Rishabh has been out of action since a horrific car accident in December 2022.

The accident had left Rishabh with a severe right knee injury that required a ligament reconstruction surgery besides a fractured wrist and ankle. But he has done well to bounce back.

His IPL franchise Delhi Capitals' head coach Ricky Ponting has already stated that he would be participating in the league.
