'If Harry Kane goes there' - Jamie Carragher makes Liverpool and Man City title prediction

Jamie Carragher believes Manchester City will have the edge over both Chelsea and Liverpool in the Premier League title race if they complete the signing of Harry Kane from Tottenham.

Kane is keen to leave the North London side in pursuit of trophies, with City believed to be keen on securing the services of the forward.

Speaking to Gary Neville on The Overlap back in May, Kane publicly admitted he is open to a transfer and claimed he would hold talks with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy about his future.

The forward missed out on Tottenham’s opening game of the season against City, with new boss Nuno Espirito Santo citing his lack of pre-season as the reason for his absence.

However, he returned to the Spurs squad for Sunday’s 1-0 win over Wolves, coming on as a second half substitute.

City are believed to be refusing to give up in their pursuit of a striker, with Kane being seen by many in the game as the missing ingredient within Pep Guardiola's side.

Although, as things stand, Spurs are prepared to dig their heels in and try and price City out of a move, with Levy poised to demand at least £150million for the England captain.

Liverpool finished 17 points behind champions City last season, but are two from two in the Premier League so far this season.

And while Carragher believes Liverpool will be stronger this year with the return of Virgil van Dijk, he also claims City will be "really difficult to stop" if they land Kane.

"Virgil van Dijk is one of the best players in the Premier League, you think with [Mohamed] Salah, [Kevin] De Bruyne, Kane, five or six players who are rated as the best, so he will make a huge difference,” he told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports.

"Don’t forget that Liverpool finished third last season with no centre-backs, so it was actually a really good achievement in the end.

"Man City are Man City, Liverpool are the one team who have broken their spell up, once in the past four or five years."

He continued: "It will take a lot to do that again and it took a lot for Liverpool to win the title, it was unbelievable consistency.

"But I think, right now, City, what they might do in the next week, I think it’ll be really difficult to stop them if Harry Kane goes there.

“If he doesn’t and they don’t have that recognised striker, I think it’s much more of a fight. I think Chelsea are involved in that and I certainly think Liverpool are."
