'If Gautam Gambhir will be the coach of the team for 3-4 years, India will surely win a World Cup'

NEW DELHI: Sanjay Bhardwaj, the coach of former India opener Gautam Gambhir, believes India will secure a World Cup victory if Gambhir becomes the head coach of the men's cricket team.

"If Gautam Gambhir will be the coach of the team for 3-4 years, India will surely win a World Cup. It will be a very good feeling if my student coaches Team India," Sanjay Bhardwaj told ANI.

This speculation arises as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) searches for a new head coach with Rahul Dravid’s tenure concluding after the T20 World Cup 2024 in June.

Gambhir, a former cricketer and 2011 World Cup winner, has been frequently linked with the role over the past few weeks, receiving backing from several former cricketers.

Currently, the Indian team is performing exceptionally well in the ongoing T20 World Cup, remaining undefeated and close to securing a place in the final four. As the team showcases strong performances under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, Bhardwaj is hopeful that India will bring home the World Cup after a long 13-year wait.

"We have been performing very well. Earlier, our bowling attack was not good. But now our bowling attack has also become good with pacers like Jasprit Bumrah. I hope that we will win the World Cup after 12 years," Bhardwaj added.
