If Derby County get promoted, they'll spend three seasons in the Premier League says Nottingham Forest legend

Let’s get it right, if Derby County get promoted to the Premier League, they’ll last three seasons.

Autumn, winter and spring.

That’ll be it.

Credit to them for beating Leeds on Wednesday night, and it was a game that Nottingham Forest fans would have hated.

Two clubs where there’s no love lost battling out for a place in the play-off final, surely that has to be our worst nightmare?

At least the way Leeds capitulated will have given some small comfort to Forest fans, albeit not a huge amount because it was the lesser of two evils.

Frank Lampard has used the ‘old pals act’ to get the likes of Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori and make no mistake about it, as soon as Chelsea come calling, he’ll be off running to Stamford Bridge without a second thought for Derby.

He’ll dump them.

They’ve made some good signings in the likes of Mount, Tomori and Harry Wilson, but let’s not beat around the bush, if you take out those three, they’re absolutely rubbish.

If they don’t go up, they’ll be struggling next season because I can’t see them being able to attract that kind of player again, and they’ll be poor.

This is how many new signings Nottingham Forest need to challenge for Championship promotion

These aren’t Derby's players and their hopes are pinned on ones that don’t belong to the club – I’d be concerned about the longer term.

The Rams have got no chance whatsoever of buying Mount or Wilson permanently, so what do they do then?

When it comes to the final at Wembley, you never know in football, we’ve learnt that much in recent weeks, but I can’t see Derby beating Aston Villa.

In Tyrone Mings, they’ve probably got the best defender in the Championship – it wasn’t a surprise to see Forest try and sign him in January, it was just a shame they couldn’t tempt him to Nottingham.

All over the pitch, in midfield, up front, at the back, Villa are stronger with better players.

I just hope the referee keeps a close eye on Richard Keogh, because he’s always trying to get somebody booked or sent off.

Nottingham Forest defender Tendayi Darikwa makes provisional squad for African Cup of Nations

He brings the ball out of defence nicely, as he showed in creating a couple of goals at Elland Road and he throws his body on the line for the cause, but the way he runs 70 yards to moan to a referee really annoys me.

All this nonsense I hear about players being professional and not wanting to get others carded is exactly that, it’s nonsense.

Keogh is always one of the first to hassle a referee – he’s the captain and should set an example, instead he’s childish and unprofessional.

Nottingham Forest 'target' Jamal Lowe plots Championship move after Portsmouth promotion failure

Yes, it may help his team by getting another player sent off, however, I’m not sure they’d want to win promotion like that.

Or maybe they would!

Is it time for Nottingham Forest to take a leaf out of Derby County's book this summer?
