As the evenings get darker, my main concern when going on my daily walk or run after work is how to stay visible. A lot of my workout gear has reflective material, including my running trainers, but sometimes I think having lighting higher up on my body would make my visibility better.
Whilst on my continuing search for the best running headphones, I came across a pair of open-earbuds that light up. Now, these buds are incredibly futuristic-looking with an exposed circuit board through a clear window. And if there were earbuds in "Back to the Future Part II," these would fit right in.
While I’m not recommending these buds for their sound quality, the lighting adds an element of safety for anyone who finds themselves having to go for a run super early in the morning or in the evening when the sun isn’t out.
Avoid if you’re looking for good sound
I have to start off by saying that these are not for audiophiles. If you enjoy hearing your favorite songs with the best sound quality, these buds aren’t going to be for you. The audio is passable for working out when all you need is the drive of the beat of the music... but for focused listening, I would look elsewhere.
The sound is tinny in places. While the default sound profile works for most genres, if, like me, you listen to heavier music when working out, it just won’t work.
When I listened to Kingslayer by Bring Me the Horizon (feat. BABYMETAL), which is a staple for every workout, I was disappointed. It lost the high energy I’m used to, and the drivers couldn’t work hard enough to compensate.
There are other EQ settings to choose from, but these aren’t great either and are pretty genre-specific. So what worked well for my acoustic country music playlist didn’t hold up with my favorite pop princess classics.
Breathing light
The breathing light of the AceFast AceFit Pros is the reason to grab these buds. They are obviously cool to look at along with the light up charging case, but it’s the added element of safety that sold me.
It may seem like overkill to even have lights on your earbuds, but being visible when it’s dark outside is incredibly important. Not only are you protecting yourself, but other drivers or walkers who are out and about, too.
The earbud flashes slowly in a breathing fashion with a white light. The lighting in the charging case is a fun addition too, as you can change it in the app. There are eight color choices in the app, but I went with pink to match the pink colorway of the earbuds I was testing.
Extremely comfortable
The AceFast AceFit Pro open-earbuds are some of the most comfortable I have ever tested.
I have tested my fair share of open-earbuds now, and I can confirm there is nothing worse than an uncomfortable pair. Whether they don’t fit right and keep falling off, or are far too tight, the wrong pair can actually affect how well I perform during my workout.
But the AceFast AceFit Pro open-earbuds are some of the most comfortable I have ever tested. They are extremely lightweight, and this makes it easy to wear them for long periods of time. And because of the flexible hook that wraps around the ear, they also sit securely.
