If Adlene Guedioura wants to leave Nottingham Forest then let him go now, says Reds legend

This weekend it emerged Adlene Guedioura has asked Nottingham Forest to consider letting him leave.

Apparently there is interest in him from abroad. If that's the case, fine - let him go.

If he doesn't want to be at Forest then get rid. That would be the case with any player, pretty much.

Guedioura has been a good player for the most part, but if he's not committed then he's no business being at the club.

It's a shame as he had a great Africa Cup of Nations with Algeria, but if Forest can get some money for a player who is 33-years-old then it's good business.

It was reported he refused to warm down after the Ipswich game last season. It that's true, then I don't like it. If that is the kind of attitude he has then it's another reason to let him leave.

If that did happen then I'd have fined him two weeks wages.

I've not seen much of Alfa Semedo, but from speaking with people who have, he's a good player.

If he can come in and have a good season then that's one key spot in the centre of midfield filled.

There's still one more and you would imagine Ryan Yates will be competing hard for that when he's fit again.

Tiago Silva has come in and it seems he is someone who play as a conventional central midfielder, or in a more advanced role. That means he could be good competition for Joao Carvalho.

It's hard to justify picking Carvalho for the first game of the season against West Brom next weekend, even if he returns to training this week.

The lad will only have had a few sessions to get up to speed and that's a massive ask.

All that means you're going to need someone else in your midfield against the Baggies. That looks like being Ben Watson.

That's fine with me. He's not a popular figure among the fans, but I like him.

In fact, if Michael Dawson doesn't play, I would make him captain. He's not someone you want taking on three players, or running from one box to the other.

If he sits in front of the back four and protects them well then that's fine by me. Forest have been conceding goals in pre-season, so an extra insurance policy would be useful.

Watson knows the Championship. Sememdo and Silva don't, so it's pretty much essential he plays in that first game of the season.

European Cup winner Kenny Burns was talking to Nottinghamshire Live's Matt Davies.
