IEM Cologne 2026 sets CS2 viewership record with 2.2 million peak

IEM Cologne 2026 has become the most-watched Counter-Strike 2 tournament in history, with its playoffs stage producing multiple record-breaking matches. While Team Spirit’s quarterfinal victory over G2 Esports was the first match to break the 2 million viewer mark, the tournament set a new peak during the semifinal between Team Spirit and Team Falcons.

IEM Cologne 2026 breaks the Counter-Strike 2 viewership record

The Team Spirit vs Falcons semifinal now stands as the most-watched match in Counter-Strike 2 history, reaching 2,216,902 Peak Viewers. The match surpassed the previous tournament record of 2,068,534 viewers, set just one day earlier during Spirit’s quarterfinal victory over G2 Esports.

The back-to-back records underline the massive audience generated by Cologne’s playoff bracket, with several matches crossing viewership figures that would have ranked among the biggest events in CS2 history on their own.

Most Watched matches at IEM Cologne 2026

Rank Match Stage Peak Viewers
1 Team Spirit vs. Falcons Semifinals 2,216,902
2 G2 Esports vs. Team Spirit Quarterfinals 2,068,534
3 Team Vitality vs. Falcons Quarterfinals 1,493,698
4 FURIA vs. Aurora Semifinals 1,370,258
5 FURIA vs. 9z Quarterfinals 1,257,409

The semifinal record also widens the gap over the previous CS2 benchmark, which was set by the first CS2 Major, PGL Major Copenhagen 2024, at approximately 1.85 million peak viewers. Cologne now holds the two most-watched matches in Counter-Strike 2 history.

Despite setting a new CS2 record, Cologne still trails the all-time Counter-Strike record established by PGL Major Stockholm 2021, whose grand final between NAVI and G2 Esports attracted 2,748,434 concurrent viewers. That event’s viewership was bolstered due to it being the first post-pandemic Arena event.

IEM Cologne 2026 also leads the hours-watched charts

Viewership records for Cologne haven’t just been limited to peak audience figures either. IEM Cologne 2026 has also become the most-watched Counter-Strike tournament ever by total watch time, reaching over 90 Million hours watched. That figure surpasses the previous peak from BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025 (76 Millions).

Both events benefitted from format changes, that increased the number of matches played across the event. Austin was the first CS2 major to feature 32 teams, adding an entire new stage of Swiss matches. Meanwhile for Cologne, Stage 3 was bumped up from a mix of best-of-ones and best-of-threes to an all BO3 affair. This meant that the best teams in the world, that already drew the most eyeballs, were playing three map games more consistently than at the previous majors. Combined with the generally improved seeding thanks to VRS, the format change propelled Cologne over 15 Million hours watched higher than Austin.

  1. IEM Cologne 2026 – 91,964,710
  2. BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025 – 76,130,773
  3. StarLadder Budapest Major 2025 – 71,315,108
  4. PGL Major Stockholm 2021 – 71,266,120
  5. IEM Rio Major 2022 – 69,517,244

With a brilliant finals between two of the most popular Counter-Strike teams, Falcons and Furia, closing out the tournament in a best-of-five, IEM Cologne is set to push the viewership stats ever higher on Championship Sunday. If the series goes all the way, with Finn “Karrigan” Andersen’s classic overtimes in tow, the Cathedral of Counter-Strike could easily push past PGL Stockholm and set a new record for the whole franchise.
