Idyllic beer garden near Bristol named one of England's best

Beer gardens have unsurprisingly been rammed since lockdown measures across England were eased on Monday.

Outdoor hospitality was allowed to resume on April 12 as part of the Government's roadmap to exit lockdown and people have been enjoying the increased freedom.

Unlike last year, there is no need for customers to order a substantial meal with their alcoholic drinks and no curfew, which is proving to be a welcome easing of the rules.

We're blessed with a wealth of fantastic pub gardens in Bristol with brilliant boozers all over the city boasting beautiful outside seating areas.

And one near the city has just been named as one of the best in England - although it's no stranger to awards.

Big 7 Travel has placed The Rising Sun in Pensford at number seven in its round-up of the 25 best beer gardens in England - just six months after the village pub was named Britain's best beer garden by radio station Union JACK.

Speaking about the pub, Big 7 said: "What do you get when you combine a spacious riverside pub with views of Pensford Viaduct and the village church? The best beer garden in Bristol, duh.

"The Rising Sun in Pensford is a mere 15 minutes outside of Bristol city centre, yet its idyllic setting makes it feel worlds away.

"Inside has traditional stone walls and a cosy fireplace, but it’s the beer garden here that puts it on the map. The location beside the River Chew is unbeatable on a balmy summer evening, pint in hand."

Owned by St Austell Brewery, The Rising Sun is loved by locals and visitors for its warm and friendly atmosphere and riverside location, offering stunning views of Pensford Viaduct and the village church.

It was taken over in 2019 by Lisa Faulkner and her business partner Rebecca Fricker, who carried out a refurbishment soon after picking up the keys and placed more of an emphasis on the food offering.

The pub is already well booked up this weekend for food, as you would expect, but there are a few spaces left for customers who only want a few drinks.

To book a table, message the pub's Facebook page or call it on 01761 490006.
