Idukki: 65-year-old woman dies of rabies in Idukki

IDUKKI: A woman died of rabies in Idukki on Saturday morning. The deceased has been identified as Thottakkatt Omana, 65, wife of Shankar, a resident of Thekkinthandu near Murickassery.

According to health department sources, Omana was bitten by a stray dog two months ago and did not inform her family or take the anti-rabies vaccine. She was admitted to Idukki Medical College last week after having health issues and informed the doctor that she was bitten by a dog. Hospital authorities administered her the vaccine. But she again developed health issues and was admitted to Kottayam Medical College on Wednesday. However, her life could not be saved.

After postmortem, the funeral was held at a public crematorium in Koompanpara near Adimali. Health department officials said that Omana’s husband Shankar and daughter Radha will be shifted for observation. TNN
