Idrissa Gueye eyed as Everton's transfer stance on Ross Barkley revealed

Everton are set to ramp up their efforts to strengthen their midfield options heading into the new season with the club interested in bringing Idrissa Gueye back to Goodison Park.

The ECHO understands that Frank Lampard sees strengthening midfield as a priority and interest in Gueye is genuine as the Blues prepare to kick-off their new Premier League campaign against Chelsea at Goodison on Saturday evening.

Ross Barkley is another name to be linked with a move to Goodison this summer, but the ECHO understands that talk of a return is currently just speculation at this moment in time.

RATINGS: Everton player ratings as Dwight McNeil great and James Tarkowski good vs Dynamo Kyiv

ANALYSIS: Nathan Patterson can give vital answer but formation question lingers

Gueye made 108 appearances for the Blues over the course of his three-year stint on Merseyside, before joining the Le Parc des Princes club for a fee in the region of £30million in 2019. He fulfilled his dream to play in the Champions League, and was a mainstay in the PSG side during his first two seasons at the club.

Commenting on the club's transfer vision after beating Blackpool earlier this month, Lampard said: "I said after the game in Minnesota we want to bring in players that can help fill that void as well because we want players in the squad, players who can improve the squad, we are all aware of that, we are all working so that is another side, but my day-to-day job is to focus on what we have got and train a bit better so people like Dele getting into those areas of course is a big plus.

"There is room for improvement from everyone today. It is absolutely not a finished article, as much as we were good, there are things to improve on, but little stories like Dele and Patts and Myko feeling confident and getting a good performance today is a good step forward."
