Idris Elba has spoken out in support of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry following their interview with Oprah Winfrey.

In April, the couple gave their first sit-down interview since stepping back as senior members of the royal family, discussing their struggles with mental health, racism and their relationship with the palace.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Elba, who attended the pair’s wedding in 2018 along with wife Sabrina Dhowre, shared his own thoughts on the interview.

“I will say that everyone has to have their opportunity to speak up about what they feel, you know,” Elba said.

“You cannot take someone’s voice away, that’s all we have to communicate.”

Elba isn’t the only actor to speak out in defence of the couple, with Markle’s former Suits co-star DB Woodside this week demanding that the royal family apologise to her.

“If they think that this kind of stuff is going to knock her off her game for very long, they picked the wrong woman to mess with,” he said.

“She is the wrong woman to mess with, they need to back up. [They need to] back off and apologise because she is not the one. She is not the one.”
