Idles postpone Cardiff Motorpoint Arena gig due to Covid rules

Punk band Idles have postponed a Cardiff gig which was scheduled for this month.

The Bristol-based rockers were due to play the Motorpoint arena on Friday, January 21, but will push the performance to a later date. It had already been rescheduled from May 12 last year.

Idles, who are fronted by Newport-born Joe Talbot, said in a tweet: "Due to ongoing restrictions in Wales, we are unable to play Cardiff Arena on Friday January 21st. We are now looking to find a date where we can reschedule this show and should hopefully have something for you very soon. Tickets will be valid for the rescheduled date."

The Welsh Government introduced tighter rules last month to curb the spread of Covid variant Omicron. No more than six people are allowed to meet in hospitality venues. The rules only permit licensed venues to offer table service. Indoor events are capped at 30 people with two-metre social distancing.

First Minister Mark Drakeford said ministers will look at easing Wales' Covid rules when restrictions are reviewed next week but it is a "big if" whether the situation would allow that.

Idles still have eight gigs scheduled elsewhere in Britain throughout this month. The five-piece are touring in support of their new album Crawler.
