Identity of woman allegedly murdered in random attack yet to be revealed

Flowers were left at the scene where an alleged murder victim was found.

A court has suppressed the identities of an alleged killer and his victim, who were both found outside a bank at one of Adelaide's largest shopping centres overnight.

Emergency services were called to Colonnades Shopping Centre at Noarlunga just before 12:15am after receiving reports of a woman with serious head injuries.

A 36-year-old woman was given first aid outside the local BankSA branch, but was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 20-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested at the same location and faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday afternoon, charged with her murder.

The man was remanded in custody but no further details of the alleged offending were aired in court.

He made no application for bail and will appear in court again in March.

Police earlier said they had not established any links between the victim, from Ethelton near Port Adelaide, and the alleged perpetrator.

The request by the prosecution to suppress the victim and alleged killer's identity was made to protect any future trial, allowing police to interview witnesses free from the potential influence of media or social media reports.

"At the moment, it's very early in the investigation and we're just trying to piece together exactly what's occurred," Detective Chief Inspector Scott Fitzgerald said.

Senior Constable Rebecca Stokes said crime scene and forensics officers would remain at the scene to gather evidence.

"We'll be scouring the area for CCTV and wanting to speak to anyone who comes forward who may have more information," Senior Constable Stokes told ABC Radio Adelaide.

Flowers have been left at the scene in tribute to the victim.
