'Ideal opponents for Man United' - National media react to Spurs beating Burnley in Carabao Cup

Tottenham booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night as they squeezed past Premier League opponents Burnley at Turf Moor.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men ran out 1-0 winners in the tie thanks to Lucas Moura’s clever finish, latching onto a cross and finishing with a header into the turf to loop the ball over Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope.

Spurs certainly had the better of the game on stats, dominating the ball with 62% possession and ten shots, with four of those on target. The home side on the other hand had just five shots with only one on target.

The result means they have progressed to the last eight in the competition, hoping to better last year’s final appearance with a victory and a fourth League Cup for the club.

Here’s what the national media had to say about Spurs in reaction to Wednesday’s victory, with Manchester United next up for the Lilywhites at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.

Charlie Eccleshare - The Athletic

“Good to get the win tonight, but still feel that every #THFC game at the moment feels like an arm-wrestle that could go either way.

“Spurs yet to beat a Premier League team by more than a goal in 11 attempts under Nuno.”

Have your say on yesterday's Man of the Match from Tottenham's victory over Burnley

Sam Dymond - The Sun

“It wasn't pretty, but it may just prove to be the moment that kickstarts Tottenham's season - and Nuno Espirito Santo's time in charge.”

Jamie Jackson - The Guardian

"Tottenham are into the next round and will not care how they spluttered against the equally misfiring Burnley.

"On this showing Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Manchester United would seem to have an ideal opponent on Saturday against whom to arrest their dire form, though Tottenham were only at half-strength."
