Ideal Elf on the shelf hack for parents as app created to 'trap elf inside the TV'

The Elf on the shelf craze is getting ever-more sophisticated!

Families are coming up with more inventive ways for Santa's mischievous helper to act when their nocturnal magic springs them intoo life.

But what starts off as a fun task for the parents as much as the kids can end up becoming a struggle as you run out of locations and ideas for your elf.

But a new app is offering adults a new place for their elf to end up - inside the TV.

Anyone with a television and access to YouTube can use it, reports Birmingham Live.

Those with a smart TV can go onto the app, type in 'Elf stuck in TV' and Santa's little helper will appear 'trapped' behind the screen.

Beside the familiar cheeky face reads the message: "I hit the wrong button on the remote.. How do I get out of here?"

The hugely useful Christmas hack is being widely shared by delighted parents who don't have to worry about what elfie will be getting up to for at least one night.

Anyone who doesn't have a smart TV with YouTube built in can use their phone to play it onto your TV.

Just open the mobile YouTube app and tap on the Cast icon, which should appear as long your TV device is on the same Wi-Fi network.
