ID verification specialist GBG to sell subsidiary to background check giant

Chester-based identify verification specialist GBG, which works with the likes of Nike, HSBC, Harrods and Bentley, has agreed to sell its Employ and Comply business to a global background check company headquartered in the USA.

First Advantage, which conducts over 75 million screening checks annually, with more than 35,000 customers globally, has signed an agreement to buy the business.

Employ and Comply is currently part of GBG's Identity segment and accounted for approximately 3.4% of group revenue in FY20.

Chris Clark, chief executive at GBG, said: "We recognise that employment screening services require specialist market capability.

"First Advantage has a global capability in background screening services and is a business that shares many of our values.

"We believe we've found a great home for our customers and our people who will bring great expertise, energy and capability to First Advantage in the UK."

The news comes after GBG revealed it is on track to report forecast-beating results for its current financial year.

GBG also works with the likes of Tesco, IBM, PayPal and Waitrose.
