Seven Jharkhand students have crossed the magical 98% aggregate in the ICSE results declared on Friday, five of them being from Jamshedpur. In ISC too, Jamshedpur produced the top three students who secured 98% and above.
Kumar Sambhav, a small town boy from Deoghar’s St. Francis School topped the state with 98.6% marks in ICSE. However, no Ranchi student found a mention in the list of top seven students released by the board.
“I want to pursue a career in robotics after completing my engineering from one of the IITs,” said Sambhav, who is preparing for the JEE exams in Kota.
Ashutosh Kumar of Narbheram Hansraj School, Jamshedpur, topped in ISC science in Jharkhand with 98.50%.
Total 98.72% students from the state passed the ICSE exams, while the pass percentage for ISC was 96.47 in Jharkhand.
“Our students from Jharkhand have once again proved there is no dearth of studious children here. Though we could not produce the country topper this time, the state students have in general done very well,” said Fr. Ajit Xess, ICSE coordinator for Jharkhand.
A total of 14,620 students from Jharkhand appeared in the exams from the state. Out of them 10,427 children from 94 schools appeared in the ICSE exams that started on February 29 and concluded on March 31. Altogether 4,193 students from 49 schools appeared in the ISC exams that started on February 8 and concluded on April 8.
According to a communique from the board, total 1456 tribal students from Jharkhand appeared in the ICSE exams and 545 in the ISC.
A majority of students who secured over 95% marks in the ICSE aspired to take up science and become engineers or doctors. None of the students aspired for unconventional career options or research work.
Shayani Mallik, Ranchi topper from Bishop Westcott School said she wanted to become a software engineer. Shayani secured 98% marks. St. Xavier’s topper from Ranchi, Rahul Harlalka who scored 97.2% also aspired to pursue engineering in computer science from IIT.
“I have been preparing for the JEE exams. My dream is to crack IIT and pursue engineering in computer science from the premiere institute,” said Rahul.
With 98.2%, Dhanbad topper Kashika Raj of Carmel School said she aspires to become a doctor and is preparing for the entrance exams.
