An iconic water tower in Liverpool is set to go under the hammer, with permission for it to be transformed into luxury apartments and an events space with views over the city.
The "rare and unique opportunity" to buy the Grade II-listed Everton Water Tower on Margaret Street is being handled by SDL Auctions.
The distinctive red brick structure has loomed over Everton since 1857 when it was designed by Thomas Duncan, who is understood to be Liverpool's first water engineer.

SDL Auctions said: "Once converted the development with be of the highest standards throughout offering the very best of living and event space." The guide price is £150,000 plus fees.

Under the plans, the ground floor would comprises a single one-bedroom apartment with an entrance lobby, reception area, commercial kitchen and storage space on the first floor.
The fifth floor would house five one-bedroom apartments and a large events space, roof top terraces and toilet facilities would be on the sixth floor.
The tower can be seen across Liverpool and stands at the top of Everton Brow. The auction is set to take place on Thursday, 27 October.
It was originally put up for sale by United Utilities in 2018 because it no longer served any operational purpose. It was bought for £70,000 in 2019.
In 2020, the ECHO revealed that plans for the tower had been filed by Loughborough-based Grey Goose Ltd.
The company sought permission to build an apartment at the top of the tower for visitors to Liverpool. A lift would be installed while the zinc roof of the building would be replaced and a glazed glass structure offering 360 degree views of the city would be built in its place.
A report submitted with the plans said: "Due to the very specific architecture of the water tower, identifying a suitable alternative use is difficult to imagine, resulting in the site being unused and vacant for many years."
