Ayr’s Fish Cross statue has donned a new look for the Covid-19 pandemic.
The iconic carved figure sported a mask and a cone this week.
It is unknown who decked out the sculpture in protective equipment at the bottom of the High Street.
But it provides some light hearted relief on a sunny Friday as the Scottish Government slightly eases lockdown restrictions.
The new image could be inspired by the Duke of Wellington statue in Glasgow. That city centre landmark is famous for wearing a cone and was recently fitted with a face covering too.
The Ayr statue was created by Malcolm Robertson and entitled “Reminiscence.”
Erected in 1995, it marks the historical site of the Auld Toun’s vibrant Fish Cross marketplace. It was a market for about 800 years and there were scales to weigh out goods.
It was once a hive of activity for trading fish caught at Ayr harbour.
