Iconic London nightclub that has hosted some of Britain’s biggest DJs 'shutting doors next year'

An iconic nightclub that has hosted some of Britain’s biggest DJs will officially shut its doors next year, reports suggest.

Corsica Studios in Southwark, southeast London is set to close in 2026 after more than two decades in business.

It is unclear exactly why the establishment, which is situated within the railway arches near Elephant and Castle station, is closing.

But sources told The Londoner that it has become another victim of an increasingly impossible environment for entertainment venues in the capital.

The owners have also been ham-stringed by noise complaints from neighbours and reported dwindling profit margins due to rising costs.

Opened in 2022 by Amanda Moss and Adrian Jones, Corsica Studios has played host to countless electronic acts over the years, including Fred again.., Four Tet and Bicep.

From 2010, club promoter Boiler Room used the venue as an early base and the record label Hyperdub hosted many events there.

It was named “Best Small Club” by DJ Magazine in 2019 and was voted among the 100 best clubs in the world by the publication’s readers.

In 2018, it was handed £125,000 by Delancey, the real estate firm behind the Elephant and Castle town centre development, to soundproof the building.

And in 2020, it won a £400,000 grant from Arts Council England to provide relief during the coronavirus pandemic.

Sources told Southwark News in 2023 that the cost of relocating, soundproofing and licensing the complex would be "unviable".

The Standard has approached Corsica Studios for comment.
