Star Wars lightsaber used by Luke Skywalker expected to fetch at least $1m at auction

  • A lightsaber used by Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars : Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back , featuring a severed hand effects rig, is anticipated to sell for at least $1 million at an upcoming auction .
  • The iconic prop, which has never been offered for public sale, will be a centrepiece of the Hollywood & Entertainment Signature Auction by Heritage Auctions, scheduled for 13-17 July.
  • Among other lots is John Lennon 's handwritten lyrics for “If I Fell”, penned during The Beatles' 1964 first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show , with bidding commencing at $500,000.
  • Film enthusiasts can also bid on Margaret Hamilton's Wicked Witch of the West hat from The Wizard of Oz and Gene Wilder's distinctive hat from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory .
  • The auction further includes Sylvester Stallone's boxing boots from Rocky III and the two rugs from The Big Lebowski.
