Iconic Belfast restaurants that have closed through the years

We decided to take a trip down memory lane and look back at some of the iconic Belfast restaurants we wish were still open today.

Unfortunately, the city centre has seen several restaurants close their doors or stop operating for good down through the years, from glamorous dinner destinations to lunchtime spots and everything in between.

Many former Belfast restaurants will be fondly remembered as the places to go where we would have celebrated special occasions.

Have a look at some of the iconic Belfast restaurants whose doors are no longer open and reminisce about the memories they may bring.

The Howard Restaurant

The former restaurant on Howard Street oozed glamour back in the day. It was a special treat to dine here before paying a trip to the cinema or after seeing a show in the Opera House.

Those who were lucky enough to have eaten here will never forget their legendary prawn cocktail or chicken Maryland. Not only will the menu bring back fond memories, but the restaurant also created an ambience with their piano player as they serenaded you while you enjoyed your meal.

Jenny's Coffee Shop

Jenny's coffee shop used to reside on Dublin road where many cups of tea have been had down through the years. Jenny's was a reliable lunchtime spot which many will boast used to do the best toasted sandwiches in all of Belfast. Those with a sweet tooth will fondly remember their delicious chocolate eclairs and scones.

Delaney's Restaurant

The corner where Lombard Street and Rosemary Street meet used to be home to Delaney's restaurant - the perfect place to refuel after a day out in the city.

Many will fondly remember Delaney's for its tasty lasagne and for its sweet treats too, like the delicious apple pie and strawberry pavlova. Along with the food, the interior has left lasting memories in our minds. From all the bits and bobs on the walls, who remembers the booths?
