Iconic Beethoven

Nicholas Carter, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra’s principal conductor, leads the orchestra in Beethoven’s famous 200-year old Symphony no 5, Strauss’s Don Juan, and Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G.

The first four notes of Beethoven’s fifth is iconic Beethoven, and these introductory pars are wrestled with and overcome in the latter parts of the symphony. Strauss’s Don Juan has become a prototype for Hollywood adventure tracks with its vigour and velocity.

Croatian pianist Dejan Lazić will track the variety of moods in Ravel’s Piano Concerto from the carnival opening to the wind-up toy finale.
