Former major leaguer Ichiro Suzuki urged participants in youth tournament that bears his name to have experiences that alter how they see things in life, he said at the closing ceremony in Toyoyama, Aichi Prefecture, on Sunday.
The Ichiro-hai Sodatsu Gakudo Nanshiki Yakyu Taikai (Ichiro Cup junior rubber baseball tournament) ended with this season. Ichiro delivered his "final message" at the Sunday ceremony.
"There were many things that I could only discover and learn after going out in the unknown world," said Ichiro, looking back over his playing days.
The top three of the 180 teams that participated in the tournament were presented with awards at the ceremony. One by one, Ichiro put a medal around the necks of the three teams' members.
