An Iceland supermarket was closed after a dead mouse was spotted in the aisles of the shop.
A Liverpool council spokesman said their environmental health officers had not been called to the Iceland in Belle Vale Shopping Centre but confirmed they planned to launch an investigation.
A letter taped to the door this morning said that the shop was closed - and a post on social media indicated that customers had seen a mouse on the floor next to jars of pasta sauce.
A spokesman for Iceland said only one dead mouse had been reported by a shopper but after inspections the supermarket chain was satisfied it "had only recently entered the store".
He said: "Our Belle Vale store has a 5/5 food hygiene rating from its local authority , and an unblemished hygiene record.
"Like all our premises it is regularly inspected by our pest control specialists and they have found no previous evidence of rodent activity in the store.
"Following a social media post this morning, showing a single dead mouse, we closed the store for a thorough clean of the premises and product check; this included a detailed inspection by our pest control specialists, who found no further evidence of mice in the store.
"We are therefore satisfied that this was an isolated incident and that the mouse had only recently entered the store. We are grateful to the customer who brought it to our attention and regret the inconvenience caused by the temporary closure."
Council environmental health officers are expected to begin their investigation next week.
