Iceland stores in Hamilton opening at special times for elderly to get weekly shopping

Iceland stores in Hamilton are going that extra mile to ensure that elderly people can get their weekly shopping before shelves are raided by panic buyers.

The company announced that it would be introducing a special policy where shops would be opening earlier one day per week to senior citizens only.

The Iceland store on Brandon Street will be open from 10am-12noon on Wednesdays for pensioners, while the shop at Hamilton Retail Park has allocated a slot of 8am-10am  on Wednesdays.

A spokesperson for Iceland said: “The impact of COVID-19 continues to disrupt routines for many people and businesses, and there is widespread concern about access to food, especially for vulnerable people and the elderly.

“With many of our Iceland stores located at the heart of communities across the UK, we are encouraging our store managers to dedicate the first two hours of opening on Wednesday morning to the elderly (those of state  pension age) and vulnerable people in their community, such as those with disabilities.

“We are focused on being able to feed the nation and to support those people most in need.”
