Iceland launches new rainbow ice cream - and its sales support the NHS as an extra sweetener

A new ice cream is hitting the market - and is set to make a colourful addition to the dinner table - in a launch aimed at ensuring that the hard-pressed NHS gets its just desserts.

A multi-coloured Rainbow Cheesecake Ice Cream is the latest new sweet treat from Iceland and The Food Warehouse, which is part of the frozen food chain, and is going on sale there this week.

And shoppers keen to sample the new dessert need not feel guilty about indulging themselves because all profits from the sales are being donated to the Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation to support NHS charities during the coronavirus crisis.

In keeping with the rainbow emblem, which has become a symbol of support for the NHS as they tackle the Covid-19 outbreak and now appears in the windows of homes across the UK, the colourful ice cream promises to "brighten up dessert plates across the nation", said a company spokesman, while donations from the sales are to "thank the frontline staff for the incredible work they’re doing".

Coronavirus: Latest rules and opening hours at UK supermarkets

Described as a "perfect after-dinner treat", the rainbow ice cream is said to have a cheesecake flavour and it contains sauces tasting of strawberry and black cherry as well as a decoration of sugar sprinkles.

It is available in Iceland and The Food Warehouse stores as well as online and costs £2 for a 900ml container while there's currently a special offer of two containers for £3.

The company also makes dedicated shopping hours available to NHS staff and these are during the first hour of trading at Food Warehouse stores and also the last hour of trading in Iceland stores. See more about the company here.
