Iceland launches new online shopping app with digital Bonus loyalty club

Iceland has launched the UK’s first supermarket home delivery app – allowing customers to shop on-the-go and collect Bonus points at the same time.

Right now, loyalty card holders must swipe their card at the checkout, however, the digital version means shoppers just need to scan their app at the till point to claim points.

As usual, customers get a £1 bonus for every £20 saved in the scheme. Shoppers can also top up their savings and check their balance using the app.

“We’re thrilled to be launching our first-ever app,” said Iceland Foods chief customer and digital officer David Devany.

“The Bonus Card app will allow more customers than ever to save when shopping with us in-store and online with ease. There’s no need to worry about losing your card anymore, it’s all stored on your phone.”

The upgrade comes as Morrisons prepares to axe its More card next month – seven years after launching to the public.

The supermarket chain said the club will be replaced by a new personalised scheme that will offer money-off vouchers via its app, instead.

Customers will no longer be able to collect points in stores and online from May 10, although points can continue to be redeemed until August.

Meanwhile, Asda is rumoured to be in talks to launch the first loyalty club in its 72-year history as it prepares for a multi-billion takeover with new UK owners the Issa brothers.

The chain is expected to trial a new scheme this year as the country recovers from lockdown.

The loyalty club will be an upgrade of 'George Rewards' - which incentivises customers who purchase goods from its clothing line.

The latest shake-up follows a new digital loyalty club launched by discounter Lidl last year.

Through the Lidl Plus app, savers can access personalised coupons based on their purchases, as well as a scratchcard with bonus cash savings each week.
