Iceland launches McDonald's fakeaway range to make at home

McDonald's has announced it is opening 15 stores for delivery after weeks of closed doors across the UK.

With the majority of the new store openings taking place in London, there may be a longer wait for those outside the capital who want to get their hands on a Big Mac during lockdown.

Supermarket Iceland has decided to do something about the wait by launching a McDonald's 'fakeaway' deal so that customers can recreate the taste of McDonald's at home.

The supermarket already sells official frozen Greggs sausage rolls and pastries as well as Nandos sauces and spices, and it is now taking on the task of helping McDonald's fans recreate their favourite meal at home.

Unfortunately, it will not be the fast food many fans of the chain want. Instead, Iceland is offering a do-it-yourself deal including frozen chips, chicken nuggets and quarter pounders.

It may not be an exact match for McDonald's but the deal does include a triple brioche bun so that you can make a stacked double burger, sauces and thin french fries.

Iceland is also selling Oreo ice cream to add to the meal for those craving a McFlurry.

The supermarket has a dedicated Build Your Own Big Mac section of the site with all of the McDonald's-style ingredients in one place. You can see the latest items here.

Meanwhile, McDonald's says the first 15 restaurants to reopen across the UK on May 13 will open their doors from 11am.

a smaller menu will be offered as part of the social distancing rules designed to stop the spread of the new coronavirus.
