Iceland is giving NHS and emergency service staff a 20% discount

If you work in any of the emergency services you can now get the cost of your weekly shop slashed.

Supermarket chain Iceland , which has its roots in north Wales, is giving a massive 20% discount to those working for the NHS, police, fire service, ambulance, HM coastguard, RNLI and all UK armed forces.

All you have to do is show your official ID - or Blue Light Card - in store and best of all there's no minimum spend required, according to the Mirror .

So it even applies if you're just popping in for a sandwich.

However, the limited offer will last for just eight days, starting on Monday, October 14 , and ending when shops close on Monday, October 21 .

Iceland is opening its first cafe - watch the video below to find out more:

Sir Malcolm Walker, Iceland’s Founder, said: “Like everyone else, I am in awe of the amazing work undertaken by our emergency services and armed forces each and every day of the year. They are the people we all rely on when the going gets too tough for the rest of us.

"So we’d like to say a big “thank you” to all those whose work is dedicated to saving and protecting the lives of others, whether that is in the ambulance service or the wider NHS, the police, fire service, HM Coastguard, and the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.

"Plus the volunteers who readily respond to our emergency calls in the RNLI and Mountain Rescue teams.”

The discount only applies in store, because you'll need to show your ID, but new online shoppers can still get a discount by entering the code ICELAND5   for £5 off a £40 shop, or ICELAND650   for £6.50 off a £45 haul.
