Iceland customers in uproar over Turkey Twizzlers' long-awaited comeback after 15-year absence

Shoppers of a certain age celebrated this week when Bernard Matthews announced that Turkey Twizzlers were finally making a comeback - after a 15-year absence.

The teatime favourite disappeared from freezer cabinets across the nation following criticism from TV chef Jamie Oliver.

However, a new and improved version has gone on sale in Iceland supermarkets with shoppers able to choose from Original Tangy Tomato and Chilli Cheese flavours, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The packs currently cost £2.50 for eight - but many shoppers have been left 'heartbroken' after they rushed to their local Iceland, only to find Turkey Twizzlers were nowhere to be seen.

"Gutted.. I just went in Iceland to get some Turkey twizzlers and they didn’t have any," wrote one person on Twitter.

Another posted: "Went to Iceland for 9am to get Turkey Twizzlers and they ain’t got none. Pure fuming."

"Did i drive to two different Iceland stores for Turkey twizzlers? Yes. Did I leave both stores empty handed? Also yes. Thursday ruined," tweeted another disappointed shopper.

Somebody else added: "Heartbroken coz Iceland dont have any turkey twizzlers."

It appears it will be a couple of weeks until the meat treat is available in all stores and online with only a selected few outlets stocking Twizzlers until later this month.

When asked about the availability of Turkey Twizzlers, the official Iceland Twitter account wrote: "I can confirm that Turkey Twizzlers will be available to purchase in all of our stores and Online from 07/09/20."

As some fans said - better late than never.
