Ariana Grande generally stays out of politics. For most pop stars, actors, and celebrities, that’s is a good idea – whatever you believe in, nobody likes being lectured to by multi-millionaires from their opulent mansions.
But in this second era of Trump, where speaking up against him can come with grave personal consequences, we can only respect those who put their careers on the line by speaking up. Now, for the second time in recent months, she’s taken a stand – appearing at last night’s Golden Globes sporting an “ICE OUT” pin.

This is hardly rushing to Minneapolis in combat fatigues, a beret, and with a crate of AK-47s, but at this point, we’ll take what we can get.
Comrade Grande, welcome to the resistance
Grande last made her feelings about Trump, ICE, and Kristi Noem clear in September, when she reposted to her 372 million Instagram followers this message:
“it’s been 250 days. now that immigrants have been violently torn from their families and communities have been destroyed, now that trans people have been blamed for virtually everything and live in fear, now that free speech is on the brink of collapse for us all — has your life gotten better?”
Grande getting political was so unexpected that the White House got involved, with White House deputy press secretary Kush Desai telling outlets:
Save your tears, Ariana, because President Trump’s actions ended Joe Biden’s inflation crisis and are bringing in trillions in new investments. He even signed an executive order just like magic that paved the way for the FTC to crack down on Ticketmaster for ripping off Ariana Grande’s concert-going fans. Get well soon, Ariana!
A single popstar wearing an “ICE OUT” pin isn’t going to change anything. However, in a rapidly worsening political climate we should be relieved that Grande still feels that she can get away with this at a high-profile event without being censured by the government.
But who knows where we’ll be in a year? You might find the idea of Grande being black-bagged and carted off for ideological interrogation by the U.S. Government absurd, but many other authoritarian countries around the world love the opportunity to flex their muscles and stamp out a dissenting celebrity for speaking up.
Here’s hoping she continues this streak as awards season continues. Grande will be attending the Oscars soon, where better than to make a big splash than on the big stage during her performance for the Academy Award for Best Original Song?
