Ice House Gallery to host new ceramic exhibition by Alice Corbett

Alice Corbett at work, creating her ceramics

Changing Perspectives is a collection of new ceramics by Alice Corbett, currently showing at the Ice House Gallery in the centre of Holland Park, London.

Corbett, an Interior Architecture graduate from Kingston University and now married to former English rugby captain Lawrence Dallaglio, studied ceramics at Richmond College before making ceramic artistry her full-time career.

A sample of Corbett's work

Her collection at the Ice House Gallery is comprised of three related series of works. The boulders of the collection are influenced by the river boulders found in the rivers of South Dartmoor, where Corbett grew up; while the tall and small cylindrical sculptures are a reflection of the trees, light and shadows found in the heathland surrounding South West London where Corbett now resides. The wall hangings of the collection are inspired by the night sky.

Running throughout the collection is a striking balance between light and shadow, as well as inky textures.

"I have always been inspired by modernist architecture especially Lescaze, Le Corbusier and Frank Lloyd Wright," says Corbett. "From these influences, I strive to bring the feeling of space and light into my work.

"Just as Lloyd Wright strove to create buildings which were in harmony with their environment, so do I attempt to create fluidity within my work, making the inside of my pieces as interesting and integral as the outside."

The exhibition runs from May 11 until May 20, 2019, at the Ice House Gallery. More information can be found here.
