Ice Cube endorses Tyronn Lue for Lakers head coaching job

The offseason is fully underway for the Los Angeles Lakers, as interviews for their head coaching position have seemingly being narrowed down to former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue and Philadelphia 76ers Monty Williams.

On Monday, die-hard Lakers fan Ice Cube joined ESPN’s The Jump to give his thoughts on all things Lakers and the Los Angeles icon gave his endorsement for the team’s next head coach:

Tyronn Lue, he got a ring, he’s got LeBron’s ear. And, you know, I think he can motivate the youngsters so, he might be the front runner. Everybody else is more of an experiment, so you know, we got LeBron for three more years, so let’s make him happy, I guess, and get the right coach and get Tyronn Lue.

Ice Cube definitely has a point with hiring a head coach that knows how to work well with James. Lue probably did this the best out of any coach who has ever had the pleasure (or displeasure, depending on who you ask) of coaching James, with Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra being the only possible exception.

And as O’Shea Jackson Sr. also put it: Lue has a ring. You can discredit that championship as a product of him coaching one of the greatest players in NBA history while he was at his absolute best, but you shouldn’t. Even if he was helped tremendously by James’ otherworldly efforts in the 2016 NBA Finals, Lue did a lot to put them in the position to make that infamous 3-1 series comeback.

Lue actually has more than one ring, if you count his days as a player. In face, he won two championships 2000 and 2001 as a member of the Lakers. Sure, he might be more remembered as the guy that Allen Iverson stepped over, but he still contributed to the team!

Ice Cube seemingly commented on the current Lakers front office and their desire to fill personnel spots with former Lakers, saying this in reference to hiring Lue:

And he’s an ex-Laker so, you know, I think the Lakers like to reward their own.

The head coaching decision seems like it’s coming soon. Stay tuned here at Lonzo Wire for further updates regarding the search.

To end, enjoy Ice Cube’s message to the Los Angeles Clippers and their continued success over the current Lakers:
