Ice cream vans follow funeral procession as drivers pay respects to fellow seller

An ice cream seller's final journey has been commemorated with 10 brightly-coloured ice cream vans joining the funeral procession in London this morning.

The procession, believed to have taken place in Lewisham, South East London was spotted by Louisa Davies who filmed the heart-warming cortege and shared it to her Twitter account.

The video begins as Louisa films from a balcony, showing two traditional black hearses driving down a long road before an influx of brightly coloured ice cream vans, all proudly playing their music in unison turn on to the same road, making for an incredibly impressive, albeit vividly coloured send off.

The clip has attracted over 44,000 likes and over 7,000 retweets on Twitter already despite only being posted hours ago.

Accompanying the footage, Louisa tweeted: "Just witnessed an ice cream man’s funeral and all the ice cream vans came and followed in solidarity I AM SOBBING".

It appears that Twitter users feel similarly as they shared similar feelings.

One comment read: "My dads (is) an ice cream man and this is a tradition within the ice cream community! So lovely".

Another added: "This just came past my flat an I SOBBED".

Another marvelled at the turn out, saying: "What love and respect for a member of their community. That's just terrific. Look at all of the people who will remember him."

Due to the tweet's popularity, it has also been picked up by a few famous faces.

Greg James from Radio 1 quoted the tweet, saying “bless you, boys” while The Sun's Dan Wootton replied saying: "How utterly wonderful".
