There was more than just one Cornetto to raise a smile among pupils and staff at an East Kilbride primary school recently.
The parent council at St Vincent’s Primary in Greenhills organised a sweet surprise to welcome older pupils back after their break away from the classroom.
An ice cream van – operated by Brian Boag – made sure that the return of P4-7s was a day to remember.
The sun shone as everyone got an ice cream – and the school’s head teacher even did a stint of dishing out the tasty treats. Vice chairman of the parent council, David Kelly, told the News: “It was a great day, the sun came out and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the ice creams.
“We managed to keep it a secret from the school – the head just told pupils that there was a surprise in store.
“The kids were all amazed when Brian’s ice cream van appeared in the playground and the P1s were jumping up and down with excitement.
“And I think the whole school nearly queued up at one point – to be honest I wasn’t sure Brian was going to get through them all as he insisted on putting sprinkles on every cone.
“We just wanted to make the kids’ first week back a memorable one as it’s been horrible for them and to say a big thank you to everyone.”
Deputy head at Greenhills PS, Danielle Timmons, said: “It was a joint celebration to welcome everyone back to school with the P4-7 children return and was also on St Patrick’s Day.
“The day, and the ice cream, was enjoyed by staff and pupils alike and was a lovely gesture by
the parent council which was very much appreciated.”
