ICE breaks international law after trying to raid Ecuadorean consulate without permission

On Tuesday morning, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents attempted to gain entry to the Ecuadorian consulate prompting the country’s minister of foreign affairs to file a protest with the U.S. embassy.

A video has already gone viral online as it shows agents attempting to gain entry to the consulate despite them having no jurisdiction there. Of course, when has something as insignificant as the law ever stopped an ICE agent before

But this isn’t just U.S. laws they are breaking now, it’s international law. According to an article from KSTP.com, international law prohibits a country’s law enforcement from entering a consulate or an embassy without first attaining permission to do so. Well, obviously ICE do not have permission to enter but they try to force their way in anyways.

The video shows one brave member of staff storm to the entrance and confront the agents outside, telling them, “This is the Ecuadorian consulate. You’re not allowed to enter.” One agent can then be heard making what sounds like a threat to “grab” the member staff if he touches him but ICE ultimately back down in the end (which is unusual for them). The consulate was forced to activate emergency protocols after the incident.

The response to the attempted ICE raid

Naturally, this incident has caused some concern as ICE agents should not be able to just storm an embassy or consulate, even if they are trying to catch alleged criminals. These laws are put in place for a reason.

The Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs took to X to explain what happened, explaining that, “Consulate officials immediately prevented the ICE officer from entering the consular building,” going on to add that their actions ensured “the protection of the Ecuadorians who were present at the time.” A “note of protest” was also filed with the U.S. embassy over the incident.

However, not all saw the attempted raid as a bad thing. As usual, the ICE fanboys and MAGA cultists emerged on X to whine about the Ecuadorian staff who were just trying to uphold international law against these ICE thugs. Nick Sortor, a well-known, alt-right influencer who has involved himself in the ongoing clashes in Minneapolis, stated that the Ecuadorians “should be EXPELLED from the US for providing a safe haven for illegals on our soil.”

Clearly MAGA remains as dense and ignorant as ever. This is yet another example where ICE are overstepping and still people are defending it, still they think it’s somehow just to ignore the law when it applies to their own bigoted crusade.
