ICC tweaks gender eligibility rule for women's game

MUMBAI: With ICC approving changes to the gender eligibility rules during its board meeting on Tuesday, transgender players can no longer compete in women's international games.

According to the new rule, any player who has been through any form of male puberty will not be eligible to participate in the international women's game regardless of any surgery or gender reassignment treatment they may have undertaken. The ICC consulted the sport's stakeholders for nine months before finalising the new rule and said the decision was taken "to protect the integrity of international women's game and the safety of players".

In other decision related to the women in the game, the Chief Executives' Committee (CEC) endorsed a plan to accelerate the development of female match officials which includes equalising match day pay for ICC umpires across men's and women's cricket and ensuring there is one neutral umpire in every ICC Women's Championship series from January 2024.
