
The ICC has dropped its arrest warrant for Ivory Coast’s former first lady Simone Gbagbo. The move follows the acquittal of her husband Laurent Gbagbo for crimes against humanity. The ex-president returned to his homeland on June 17 and later met with longtime political rival Alassane Ouattara. For more, we speak to France 24's Hannane Ferdjani in Abidjan.
Also in this edition, the UN extends an arms embargo on the Central African Republic in a bid to prevent rebels from getting their hands on weaponry. France's ambassador to the UN said the African nation was seeing "a very worrying amount of violence and violations of human rights and international humanitarian law". Since December, the army has taken back significant amounts of territory from rebels, aided by 12,000 UN peacekeepers as well as Rwandan and Russian troops. The conflict, however, has displaced hundreds of thousands of people and food insecurity is affecting roughly half of the population.
