ICC Delays Proceedings against Israel

The coronavirus pandemic has forced the International Criminal Court (ICC) to delay proceedings against Israel, according to a high-ranking official in Tel Aviv.

This is the only benefit Israel can reap from the costly outbreak, said the official.

ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda had requested more time to work on the case due to the outbreak, revealing that she needed more time to review documents and carry out additional investigations.

The final legal filing could reach 1,800 pages and she would be unable to meet the set deadline due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus.

Consequently, she announced Sunday that the decision on whether to launch a full-scale investigation into alleged war crimes committed by Israel against Gaza during its 2014 war will be delayed for at least a month.

The court will now convene at the end of April.
