The 2019 Cricket World Cup finally got underway on Thursday with Ben Stokes on song as England defeated South Africa at The Oval.
The hosts England come into the tournament as the number-one ranked ODI side in the world, and remain favourites to lift the trophy for the very first time.
After the West Indies dismantled Pakistan at Trent Bridge on day two, the first instalment of Saturday's double-header took us to Cardiff, where Sri Lanka suffered a crushing 10-wicket defeat to New Zealand.
Sri Lanka were 136 all out in just 29.2 overs thanks largely to the seam and pace of Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson, with only captain Dimuth Karunaratne (52*) impressing with the bat.
New Zealand did not lose a single wicket in response as openers Martin Guptill (73*) and Colin Munro (58*) chased down a meagre target in 16.1 overs.
In Bristol, Australia began their title defence with a seven-wicket win over Afghanistan. Aaron Finch and David Warner led the way as the holders chased down 208 with more than 15 overs to spare.
In Sunday's only fixture, Bangladesh piled up their highest one-day International total and bowled superbly to upset South Africa by 21 runs in the Cricket World Cup at The Oval on Sunday.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan put together a record partnership as Bangladesh made 330 for six after being put into bat.
That meant South Africa needed to pull off the highest run chase in World Cup history, but they ended on 309 for eight and with their next game against India on Wednesday, their chances of making the semi-finals are already under threat.
