NEW DELHI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a significant increase in the prize money for the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup. The tournament will be held in the United Arab Emirates in October, and the prize pool for the 2024 edition has been raised to $7.958 million, more than double the amount offered in 2023.
The winners of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 will receive $2.34 million, up from the $1 million awarded to the champions in 2023. The runners-up will get $1.17 million, also a 134% increase. Semi-finalists will be awarded $675,000 each, over three times their payout from last year.
Teams will also see higher rewards for their group stage performance. Each group stage win will now be worth $31,154, up from last year's $17,500. Teams exiting in the group stages will receive $112,500 each, making the total for all 10 participating teams $1.125 million. Teams finishing fifth to eighth will earn $270,000 each, and those finishing ninth and tenth will get $135,000 each.
These changes showcase the ICC's effort to support and promote women's cricket. The increased prize money aligns with the goal to achieve parity between the men's and women's games and elevates the status of the Women's T20 World Cup.
The tournament will take place in Dubai and Sharjah from October 3 to October 20. Group matches will conclude by October 15, followed by semi-finals on October 17 and 18. The final will be held on October 20.
Notably, there is a change in the match schedule for the double-header on October 5 in Sharjah.
Australia will now play against Sri Lanka at 14:00, followed by the Bangladesh versus England match at 18:00 local time.
