Ibrahima Konate speaks out on Liverpool transfer links and RB Leipzig exit talk

Ibrahima Konate has insisted he is not on the verge of joining Liverpool with the RB Leipzig defender adamant that he has had no contact with Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The France Under-21s international was first heavily linked to the Reds last month and is on their shortlist of potential centre-back signings this summer.

However, reports suggesting he has agreed to move to Anfield or undergone personal terms appear to be wide of the mark.

And while it remains to be seen whether Liverpool move for the defender in the close-season, the 21-year-old has made it clear he is only focused on his future with Leipzig.

“There are often rumours in football and many believe them immediately,” Konate told Bild . “I or my agents didn’t get a call from Liverpool.

“I also have big goals with RB Leipzig. These are currently the best possible results in the Bundesliga, reaching the cup final and the U21 European Championship with France.

“I don’t want to be Dayot (Upamecano)’s successor. I’m me. We both came to Leipzig in 2017 and played well together here.

“Unfortunately, our paths are now parting. I’ll give Dayot the new job (at Bayern Munich) and continue doing my thing here.

“I have a contract until 2023. And contracts are there to fulfil.”
