Ibiza, Mallorca and Menorca at risk of being added to amber travel list as cases rise

Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca are currently at risk of being moved back to the amber list for travel later this week after cases started to rise on the islands.

The group of Balearic islands were placed on the green list by the Scottish Government at the end of last month.

People returning from the holiday destinations no longer need to quarantine on return, however that may be about to change.

At present, the islands are reporting 258 cases per 100,000 people, according to Cercle d'Economia de Mallorca.

If the destinations are placed on the amber list then Scots returning will have to self-isolate at home for 10 days.

The results of the three-week review of travel are set to be announced by the Scottish and UK Governments tomorrow, Thursday July 15.

The UK and devolved governments take their own decisions around travel quarantine rules however they tend to stick to the same countries in order to prevent confusion.

Concerns are now being raised about the surge in cases on the islands which could lead to a change in the green list.

A source told the Sun : “It’s all still up for discussion, but the figures aren’t great which is why it was on the watch list in the first place.”

From Monday Scots who are doubled vaccinated won't have to isolate on return from an amber list country, Nicola Sturgeon announced yesterday.

During a Scottish Government statement, she said: "From next Monday, self-isolation will no longer be required for people arriving from countries on the amber list, provided they are fully vaccinated through a UK vaccination programme and take a PCR test on the second day after arrival.

"We will continue to take a precautionary approach to the inclusion of countries on the amber list.

"And, notwithstanding this change, we continue to advise against non-essential overseas travel at this time."
