Ianis Hagi will wait for Rangers as legendary dad calls Ibrox club 'extraordinary'

Rangers have been told they can take their time in signing Ianis Hagi as legendary dad Gheorghe branded the Ibrox club 'extraordinary'.

The winger joined on a six-month loan from Belgian side Genk and quickly became a fans' favourite under manager Steven Gerrard.

Rangers have the choice of snapping up the Romanian for £4.5million in summer but the likes of Lazio and Real Madrid - Hagi senior's old stomping ground - reportedly keeping an eye on the situation.

Both father and son are living together back in Romania to get through the coronavirus lockdown in the country as Ianis goes through a home training regime given to him by Gerrard - and Gheorghe hinted that his son is more than happy to join Rangers permanently when he is able to.

He said: "At this moment, there has been no discussion between Rangers and Genk. It is static and there is no movement.

"As everyone knows, he is on loan at Rangers and they have an option to buy him.

"There is no deadline for Rangers. They can wait as long as they like.

"He's on loan in Scotland until the summer. I know the press wants to know what's happening with him, but he is very calm about his future.

"He wanted to sign for a big team and he's at a huge club, strong in Europe - Rangers are an extraordinary club with a winning mentality.

"Ianis is at my house with me and has been for the past month. He is training very well. If he was recalled and had to play a match tomorrow, he would do very well.

"He has a training programme from Rangers and he sticks to it 100 per cent. He sends them his data and is never off his bike in the house."
