Ianis Hagi transfer update as Rangers loanee's long term admirer plans summer Serie A swoop

Cagliari will make a summer move for Ianis Hagi after Walter Zenga confirmed he would go back in for the Rangers loanee.

The Romanian youngster is on loan at Rangers from Belgian side Genk and the Ibrox side have a first option on the 21-year-old, but Zenga tried to sign him three years ago.

Lazio and Sevilla have been strongly linked with a move for Hagi too, but his legendary father Gheorghe has insisted his son has flourished at Rangers.

And former Italy keeper and Wolves boss Zenga, who has yet to take charge of a match with his new Serie A side in Sardinia after being appointed in March, has revealed how he plans to make a raid for Hagi.

He said: "I've been following the progress of Ianis Hagi for three years, of course I want to bring him to Cagliari.

"Three years ago, I was manager of Crotone and I tried to bring Ianis to the club on loan from Fiorentina, where he was wasn't getting a game.

"But Gheorghe Hagi wouldn't sanction the move because he wanted him to return to Romania.

"He is a huge talent and would have coped at Crotone 100 per cent."

Hagi made eight starts for Rangers in his loan move and netted three goals including a double in the Europa League comeback win against Braga in February.
