Ianis Hagi transfer boost for Rangers as his dad insists Romanian youngster is happy at Ibrox

Rangers have been handed a huge boost by the legendary father of Ianis Hagi after Gheorghe revealed the youngster would love to stay at Ibrox.

The Romanian has been linked with a series of clubs despite Rangers having an option-to-buy at the end of the season.

Hagi has been linked with massive clubs, including Real Madrid, Manchester City, Spurs and Lazio and his future is up in the air.

But former Real Madrid and Barcelona icon Hagi has insisted his son is happy at Ibrox for now.

He said: "Rangers' coaches are very happy with Ianis and he is very happy in Scotland.

"The situation is he is on loan at Rangers and he's really pleased with what he has found there. There's been far too much talk about his future recently.

"We will see what will happen. It's not as if his situation is changing every day.

"His position is that Rangers have it in writing from Genk that they can buy him, so it all depends on Rangers.

"But it's not as if we are asking them for an answer every day.

"What I would say is that he is the No.1 player in Romania and has no shortage of offers.

"I don't wish to be rude, but I read stories about how he failed so far. He was signed by Genk and played in the Champions League for them, he played for Romania in the Euro 2020 qualifiers.

"They decided he wouldn't play anymore for them. Why? We don't know.

"Since then he has moved to a club that do want to play him and he'd done well both in the league and in Europe. So nothing that has happened was down to him."
